According to some people, if you use a vacuum for carpets more frequently then you will ruin your carpet, they argue that rotating beater bar, brush stretches and pull can wear out carpet fibers. However, in reality, dust, dirt, pet hair, debris and other particles have much worse effect on the carpets than most vacuum cleaners.
You should always buy a vacuum cleaner that has multiple settings to let you customize surfaces. Your vacuum should have height adjustment settings, lets say if you set height adjustment setting too low then it may damage the carpet, vacuum’s brushroll and the drive belt. On the contrary, if you set height adjustment setting too high then it would not pick up the dust, dirt and debris as well. So, you should adjust the height adjustment according to the requirement or you can also consult with the manufacturer or read the manual for better understanding.
In general, carpets can be vacuumed several times a week without sustaining a damage. On the other hand, if you don’t vacuum your carpet regularly, then a lot of dust and dirt particles would remain inside the carpet, eventually that would break down the underneath carpet fibers. It will not only damage the carpet fibers but it will also creates a breeding ground for dust mites and bacteria.
For general carpet protection, you should use vacuum for your carpet twice a week in high traffic areas, whereas you can vacuum once a week in low traffic areas. You should always remember that dirt attracts the dirt and frequently vacuuming can prevent the dirt buildup, further increasing the life of your carpet.
